  James, son of James Mitchell and Sarah Hamilton;  born co. Armagh, North of Ireland, on 2 Feb, 1811, the 4th child in a family of four sons and one daughter; in 1832 he came to Canada and located in York Township;  engaged in lumbering and farming and also kept a store at Eglinton;   married a daughter of Jacob Snider, Esq. (a United Empire Loyalists (UAE) of German descent) & ?? McCready;   remained there for over forty years;  they had four sons and five daughters;  during the Mackenzie Rebellion he was arrested and detained for two days;  he boarded at Montgomery's Hotel;  lived at 62 Alexander St. Toronto;  died 4 Apr, 1887;

In 1914 a Corps of Guides officer, Charles Hamilton Mitchell served as the GSO3 on the staff of H.Q. First Division. When the Canadian Corps was formed in August 1915, Lieutenant-Colonel Mitchell was sent to its HQ as the GSO2 (Int), the senior Intelligence appointment in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). In September 1916, Colonel Mitchell was asked to head the Intelligence Branch of H.Q. Second Army. Colonel Mitchell did well, and in October 1918 was promoted to Brigadier-General and returned to the Canadian Army in June 1919. By the end of the Great War in 1918, the Canadian Army's intelligence organization had become an efficient and successful system

     George,  born 2 Apr, 1862 at Port Hope, Ontario, Canada,  educated at Port Hope;  arrived Chicago c. 1880 and worked for the Chicago Tribune newspaper;  in 1881 at Winnipeg and lived with a Gundy family and was a clerk in the Gundy florist shop;  worked on the Winnipeg Free Press newspaper and introduced the first typewriter to that city;  assisted in the founding of the 90th Rifles and was first a sergeant,  Lieutenant 18 Apr, 1887,  Captain 29 Nov, 1889 and retired, Captain, 22 Jul, 1892;  was involved in the North-West Rebellion;  was a secretary for the Attorney-General of Manitoba;  wrote plays;  owned about 200,000 acres;  c.1892 arrived Toronto to take the Eastern Management of the Equitable Life Assurance Company;  helped to create the Dupont Skating Arena, Toronto;  The Toronto Skating Club made George a life member due to his creation of the skating arena;  married c.1900;  died 1927
