Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto Entry is for his award of the Order of the Bath. In 1914 a Corps of Guides officer, Charles Hamilton Mitchell served as the GSO3 on the staff of H.Q. First Division. When the Canadian Corps was formed in August 1915, Lieutenant-Colonel Mitchell was sent to its HQ as the GSO2 (Int), the senior Intelligence appointment in the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). In September 1916, Colonel Mitchell was asked to head the Intelligence Branch of H.Q. Second Army. Colonel Mitchell did well, and in October 1918 was promoted to Brigadier-General and returned to the Canadian Army in June 1919.
