John NASH of Brinny (highly dubious) |----(09) Samuel WELPLY |----(09) James WELPLY Notes: 1. John O'Hart reports say that Joseph Welply arrived from Wales. This may be true and we know from the 'History of Bandon' that there were Welplys at Bandon, 1597. 2. Cormac McCarthy of the McCarthy clan changed his name to Cormac Welply and changed his religion to Protestant in order to get his hands on his wife's inheritance. During early Penal times Catholics were not allowed to own property. 3. LDS records show John Welply MacCarthy MOR [c.1719- ] mc.1741 Elizabeth MINHEER [c.1723- ] with the following issues: William Welply MacCarthy MOR [1742-1833]; Joseph Welply MacCarthy MOR [c1746- ]; Miss Welply MacCarthy MOR [c.1748- ]; Miss Welply MacCarthy MOR [c.1750- ]; Abigail Welply MacCarthy MOR [c.1754- ] of Brinny; Miss Welply MacCarthy MOR [c.1760- ] of Mossgrove and Miss Welply MacCarthy MOR [c.1762- ]. All persons where of Cork, Cork, Ireland unless otherwise shown. Assumption is being made here that Walter Philips may be the father of our Charles Phillips 4. LDS records show Walter PHILLIPS [c.1750- ] of Mossgrove mc.1781 at Mossgrove Miss. Welply MacCarthy MOR [c.1760- ] of Mossgrove 5. Assumptions in that we assume that Barter Hayes is the sibling of Eliza Hayes who married Charles Phillips.
There are many variations for the spelling of WELPLY: WHELPY; WHELPLEY; WELPLEY (at least) |

Nothing is known about the early history of this family and this is an assumption from information that looks right (09) William HAYES mc.1770/5 Jane UKN Notes: 1. This union is an assumption. See 'Anglin family' and contact Bill Anglin 2. According to parish records Eliza died 1859 at the age of 75. This would make her birth c.1784. We are sure that she had a daughter Catherine who died 1810 but no record shows her birth or baptism. The earliest record for the parish of Ballymoney is 1805 and for Kinneigh is 1797. William, a son, was baptized in 1805. With naming conventions of the time we might assume that there was a Walter Phillips and Catherine Phillips born to Charles and Eliza prior to 1805. Thus, we can not believe that Eliza was about 16 yrs of age when marring and giving birth to a religious family of that day. Therefore, we can not believe the parish record - as one can not place reliance on single data no matter what the source - and if we calculate Eliza to be about 22 or so at the time of marriage then she would have been born about, 1777/78; which, is more in line with being a sibling of Barter.
